जॉन जब कॉलेज में था, तब वह आम लड़कों की तरह ही था। क्लास बंक करना, दोस्तों के साथ घूमना, क्रिकेट खेलना, झगड़ा होने पर मार-पीट करना, गालियां भी देना। ऊंची आवाज में टीचर को जवाब दे देना, रात-रात भर फिल्में देखना, तो सुबह देर तक सोना। कभी बाल बहुत लंबे कर लेना, तो बिल्कुल कभी गंजे की स्थिति तक पहुंच जाना। परिवारवाले समझा-समझा कर उसे थक चुके थे, लेकिन उसमें सुधार की गुंजाइश कम दिखती थी। उसमें बस एक बात अच्छी यही थी कि वह पढ़ाई में तेज था। भले ही कुछ घंटे पढ़े,लेकिन उसे सब याद हो जाता था। जनरल नॉलेज भी गजब का था, क्योंकि अखबार रोज पढ़ता था। पिछले साल उसने बैंक की एग्जाम दी और उसकी जॉब लग गयी। अब वह असिस्टेंट मैनेजर बन गया।
जॉब लगने के बाद जब मैं उसे पहली बार मिला, तो स्वभाव और पर्सनालिटी में बदलाव देखकर दंग रह गया। फंकी टी-शर्ट पहनने वाला युवा, शर्ट और टाई पहने हुआ था। उसमें गंभीरता और विनम्रता झलक रही थी। सीनियर्स का फोन आता, तो केवल जी सर, जी सर कहता, भले ही उसे डांट पड़ रही हो। रात को जल्दी सो जाता, ताकि सुबह सही वक्त पर बैंक जा सके। खाना भी सोच-समझ कर खाता, जिससे पेट खराब न हो। उसके इस बदलाव की वजह मैने पूछा, तो उसने बताया कि एक महीने की ट्रेनिंग में हमें यह सब सिखाया गया है। हमें कॉलेज लाइफ और प्रोफेशनल लाइफ का अंतर बताया गया। यह भी बताया गया कि अगर हम सेहत पर ध्यान नहीं देंगे, तो अच्छा परफॉर्म नहीं करेंगे और नौकरी से निकाले जा सकते हैं।
उसने आगे कहा, कॉलेज में अगर किसी से झगड़ा हो जाये, तो हम कॉलेज बदल देते हैं, लेकिन जॉब बदलना आसान नहीं। आपकी एक गलती पूरे मार्केट में यह बात फैला देती है। आप पर बदतमीज होने का धब्बा लग जाता है। अगर आप गंभीरता से काम नहीं करते, तो कोई भी आपको जॉब पर क्यों रखेगा। कस्टमर से बात करने का तरीका अगर गलत हो, तो यह फीडबैक सीनियर्स तक जाता है। वहीं सहकर्मियों से ठीक से बात करना भी जरूरी है, क्योंकि ये ही तो टीम वर्क है। यह सब सीखकर मैंने खुद में बदलाव किया है। हर युवा को ऐसा करना चाहिए।।
