Much of our mental development is due to education and discipline. Most of us give up discipline, reading or writing or say serious studies as soon as we leave school, college. We stop studying anything deeply. Instead of all this we waste our time watching TV. A survey has reported that most households have TVs running for 35 to 45 hours a week. This period is equal to the time spent by most people. This period is more than the time spent by most children in their school and college. Television is the most powerful and effective medium today. When we see it, we come in contact with the values ​​of life being taught through it. Those values ​​can have a powerful impact on us in very subtle and invisible ways.

                However, watching TV is not so bad, if it is seen wisely. You can benefit from informative, inspiring programs. I understood these things when I missed watching TV for the last one year. In my house, I used to watch a lot of TV before. See what, only the channel used to change. In this, hours would pass and time would pass. Siwan lived away from home for the past one year. Due to not having TV, I have a lot of time to spend. Now, after analyzing my routine, I understood what TV did to me, how it hurt my thinking and time.

                  When I discussed this with friends, it came to light that dependence on TV is a kind of disease. We all get used to frequent doses of a particular program. We watch most such programs, which only waste our time. It is better that we read some good literature. Never give up the school reading habit, because the person who does not study is not in a better position than the person who can read.

                हालांकि, टीवी देखना इतना बुरा नहीं है, अगर इसे समझदारी से देखा जाये। आप इसे ज्ञानवर्धक, प्रेरक कार्यक्रमों से फायदा उठा सकते हैं। ये बातें मुझे तब समझ में आयी, जब पिछले एक वर्षों से मेरा टीवी देखना छूट गया। अपने घर में मैं पहले बहुत टीवी देखता था। देखता क्या, सिर्फ चैनल बदला करता था। इसी में घंटों निकल जाते और टाइम पास हो जाता था। पिछले एक वर्षों से घर से दूर सिवान रहता था। टीवी नहीं होने के कारण वक़्त गुजारने के लिए खूब पड़ता हूँ। अब अपनी दिनचर्या का विश्लेषण करने पर मुझे समझ आया कि टीवी ने मेरे साथ क्या किया, मेरी सोच व समय को किस तरह नुकसान पहुंचाया।

                  इस बारे में मैंने दोस्तों से चर्चा की, तो यही बात सामने आयी कि टीवी पर निर्भरता एक प्रकार की बीमारी है। हम सभी को किसी खास कार्यक्रम की लगातार खुराक की आदत लग जाती है। हम ऐसे ज्यादातर कार्यक्रम देखते हैं, जो हमारा केवल समय बर्बाद करते हैं। इससे बेहतर है कि हम कोई अच्छा साहित्य पढ़े। स्कूल की पढ़ने की आदत को कभी न छोड़ें, क्योंकि जो व्यक्ति पढ़ता नहीं है, वह उस व्यक्ति से बेहतर स्थिति में नहीं है, जो पढ़ सकता है।
